FRIDAY FINDS | 10.09.2021

Hey Guys!

Welcome to another day of me speaking about books that I recently added to my TBR. Friday Finds is a weekly meme about where you found your latest books on your TBR (be it online, library, friends house, you get what I mean) and why you added them to your TBR. I found this meme over at Readerbuzz blog.

• Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone

I haven’t read any Gothic Fantasy books before. This will be my first one, and I’m too intrigued by the synopsis. I enjoy reading Dark Fantasy books and have to see how this one turn out. So, I’m excited to read this book.

Synopsis:

A lush gothic fantasy about monsters and magic, set on the banks of a cursed lake. Perfect for fans of Naomi Novik and Brigid Kemmerer.

There are monsters in the world.

When Violeta Graceling arrives at haunted Lakesedge estate, she expects to find a monster. She knows the terrifying rumors about Rowan Sylvanan, who drowned his entire family when he was a boy. But neither the estate nor the monster are what they seem.

There are monsters in the woods.

As Leta falls for Rowan, she discovers he is bound to the Lord Under, the sinister death god lurking in the black waters of the lake. A creature to whom Leta is inexplicably drawn…

There’s a monster in the shadows, and now it knows my name.

Now, to save Rowan—and herself—Leta must confront the darkness in her past, including unraveling the mystery of her connection to the Lord Under.

• The Keeper of the Night by Kylie Lee Baker

An Asian Dark Fantasy with underworld business is, without a doubt, gonna end up on my TBR. I never thought one has to have an identity to be a Reaper, so I’ll have to see how that is gonna work here as the synopsis hints at that angle.

Synopsis

Death is her destiny.

Half British Reaper, half Japanese Shinigami, Ren Scarborough has been collecting souls in the London streets for centuries. Expected to obey the harsh hierarchy of the Reapers who despise her, Ren conceals her emotions and avoids her tormentors as best she can.

When her failure to control her Shinigami abilities drives Ren out of London, she flees to Japan to seek the acceptance she’s never gotten from her fellow Reapers. Accompanied by her younger brother, the only being on earth to care for her, Ren enters the Japanese underworld to serve the Goddess of Death… only to learn that here, too, she must prove herself worthy. Determined to earn respect, Ren accepts an impossible task—find and eliminate three dangerous Yokai demons—and learns how far she’ll go to claim her place at Death’s side.

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

Sumedha from The Wordy Habitat recommended this book. I saw her mention it on Twitter, saying how much she loves this book, so I wanna give it a shot. I’m surprised that it’s unavailable on Kindle in India.

Synopsis

How can a fairy’s blessing be such a curse?

At her birth, Ella of Frell was the unfortunate recipient of a foolish fairy’s gift—the “gift” of obedience. Ella must obey any order, whether it’s hopping on one foot for a day and a half, or chopping off her own head! But strong-willed Ella does not tamely accept her fate. Against a bold backdrop of princes, ogres, giants, wicked stepsisters, and fairy godmothers, Ella goes on a quest to break the curse—once and for all.

I have been busy this week and couldn’t send the mails I had planned to send this week. I’ll be doing that during the weekend and get some reading done as well. Happy Vinayaka Chaturti to all those who celebrate and have a lovely day.
